At Bel Œil, we love bel meetings!
Our meeting with French designer Marc Ferrand, who works between Nice and Paris, has led us to wonderful discoveries…
Bel Œil presents Tree One in Nice.
Tree One is a limited series of three exceptional tables. These pieces were made from a single remarkable tree – an Atlas cedar dating from the late 19th century, sourced from the mountains of the French Riviera in Saint-Martin Vésubie.
Massive solid wood slabs were extracted from this tree. The wood was then dried and preserved for several years before being crafted by the designer and a luthier-ébéniste. The project reflects on material and geometry, an abstraction of nature. Each table is unique, made from a singular piece of wood. Tree One is a living artwork, an experience of extraordinary natural material.
Marc Ferrand designs, develops and produces design projects, as well as nomadic and temporary architectures. He has collaborated with architect Shigeru Ban since 2006 on nomadic architectures and industrial design. His notable projects include the Hermès pavilion in Milan, the nomadic Camper pavilion for Volvo Ocean Race, the Shiseido pavilion for the Venice Art Biennale, the Artek pavilion for the Milan furniture fair, and the Paper Tower for the London Design Festival.
Bel Œil will soon present a new project by Marc Ferrand, inspired by the surrounding coastline – Mediterranean Stones, a limited edition exploring uniqueness and its double. Each pebble is reproduced in gold or bronze through wax casting. Unique pieces inspired by nature, to wear or contemplate.
At Bel Œil, we love introducing our visitors to exceptional pieces connected to craftsmanship and materials…
