Philippe Starck

Philippe Starck was born in Paris in 1949. He is an inventor, creator, architect, designer, and artistic director. He has worked across diverse fields: office and industrial design, lighting, clothing, urban furniture, interior decoration, and architecture. His projects range from everyday objects to hotel interiors and building designs. He inherited his passion for invention from his father, André Starck, an aeronautical engineer:

“My father was an aeronautical engineer. For me, invention felt like an obligation.”

Starck founded his company in 1979 and gained international fame in the 1980s, becoming one of the most recognized and sought-after designers worldwide.

All his creations aim to improve people’s lives and are made with awareness of human impact on the environment. Each of his creations aims to make people’s lives easier: he strives to design objects whose functions are truly useful, guided by the philosophy of changing the way we see our everyday items.

Starck has consistently emphasized ecology, conveying his messages through over 10,000 creations. He strives to change the world, invent new lifestyles, encourage open-mindedness, and evolve ways of thinking. These values guide all his projects.

He seeks to push the boundaries of contemporary design.

Philippe Starck has designed furniture for Vitra, Alessi, Kartell, Emeco, Driade, Flos, Cassina, and many others.
