Konstantin Grcic studied cabinetmaking before joining the Royal College of Art to study design, where he encountered some of his greatest inspirations, such as Vico Magistretti.
In 1991, he founded his own studio, Konstantin Grcic Industrial Design, in Munich. Today, his headquarters is in Berlin. His studio works across multiple fields: architectural collaborations, exhibition objects, and industrial design. He has notably worked for major publishers such as Flos and Moroso. He describes his designs as functionalist: simple, yet inspired by art, design, architecture, and materials.
The May Day lamp, for example, illustrates this approach. Its simple design allows it to be carried, hung, or placed, and the handle can wrap the cable or suspend the lamp.

Grcic has received numerous awards, including a Compasso d’Oro for the May Day lamp. Some of his furniture is included in the permanent collections of MoMA and the Centre Georges Pompidou.
Konstantin Grcic has designed furniture for Flos, Magis, ClassiCon, Driade, and Plank.
