A living sculpture
The Stack cabinet by Shay Alkalay for Established & Sons redefines the very idea of a chest of drawers. Created in 2008 by Shay Alkalay, it is never truly closed. Its 13 drawers protrude at different heights, as if frozen in perpetual motion. The result: an object that is both functional and profoundly sculptural.
Painted birch plywood, bold colours
The structure is made from high-quality birch plywood. Each drawer is individually painted in vibrant, contrasting shades: red, blue, yellow, grey, white. The visible faces overlap in a hypnotic graphic play. The matte finish enhances the softness of the wood while letting the colour explode.
Thirteen drawers, thirteen stories
Each drawer opens independently and stays exactly where you leave it. No automatic closing mechanism. You decide the composition. Stack thus becomes a work you recompose every day. Shay Alkalay explains: “I find chests of drawers more intriguing when the drawers remain partially open.”
Strong presence in any interior
With dimensions of 56 × 61 × H 178 cm, it imposes a joyful verticality. It transforms a contemporary living room, a bold entrance or a creative bedroom. Viewed from the front, side or diagonally, it always offers a new face. The Stack cabinet by Shay Alkalay for Established & Sons rejects boredom and invites play.
The radical spirit of Established & Sons
Founded in 2005 in London, Established & Sons gives free rein to the boldest designers. Stack instantly became an icon of contemporary British design. Shay Alkalay, a graduate of the Royal College of Art, expresses his fascination with movement and colour. A piece that stands the test of time without ever sitting quietly.
