Triangular harmony for the outdoors
The Mexique Outdoor set by Charlotte Perriand for Cassina revives Charlotte Perriand’s visionary legacy. Designed in 1952 for the Maison du Mexique at the Cité Universitaire in Paris, it optimises space with its iconic triangular shape and rounded angles. The 541 low table and 542 stools compose freely into dynamic terraces. The matte red lacquer (rosso Cina) infuses warm, contemporary energy. This high-end set transforms outdoor spaces into lively and functional areas.
Resistant materials and premium finishes
The 541 table features an okoumé plywood top in matte red lacquer, robust against the elements. Its legs in matte black painted stainless steel ensure lasting stability. The 542 stools have triangular seats in the same matte red lacquer on a matte black steel structure. These elements combine lightness and strength, with chamfered edges for a soft touch. Each piece bears the Cassina signature: logo, Perriand’s name and serial numbering. The table measures 118 × 80 × H 102 cm, while the stools reach H 72 cm for ideal height.
Intuitive everyday functionality
The 541 table serves as a versatile surface: terrace aperitifs, nomadic work or floral displays. The three 542 stools, stackable, suit informal meals or lounge breaks. Their low design promotes comfortable, relaxed seating. The “free-form” modularity allows symmetrical or asymmetrical arrangements. At 3,066 euros for the table and 1,998 euros per stool, this investment combines quality with premium accessibility.
Versatility and landscape integration
Compose modular islands around a pool or on an urban balcony. The matte red shade harmonises with raw concrete, exotic wood or Mediterranean plants. The set integrates into a minimalist garden or bohemian courtyard alike. Its clean lines avoid visual overload. It elevates any outdoor space to revisited Scandinavian refinement.
Charlotte Perriand’s spatial quest at Cassina
Charlotte Perriand, pioneer of functional design, imagined liberated furniture to humanely inhabit space. Cassina, reissuing Mexique Outdoor in 2014 with Pernette Perriand-Barsac, perpetuates this philosophy. The set embodies the “free-form” spirit: organic compositions, honest materials and ecological durability. A vision that still inspires contemporary high-end indoor-outdoor living.
