The timeless hand-woven masterpiece
The CH25 lounge chair by Hans Wegner for Carl Hansen, introduced in 1950, remains one of Hans J. Wegner’s boldest creations. Its simple silhouette hides a revolution: the exclusive use of paper cord woven for the seat and backrest. This material, developed during the war as a substitute for sea grass, captivated Wegner with its beauty, strength and exceptional longevity.
400 metres of cord, 10 hours of artisanal weaving
Each chair requires approximately 400 metres of natural paper cord. A skilled artisan spends over ten hours hand-weaving it in an enveloping pattern visible from both sides. This unique technique, unchanged since 1950, creates a flexible seat that adapts to the body and never deforms. The oiled and soaped oak frame reveals the raw beauty of the wood.
Natural comfort and captivating aesthetics
The slightly inclined backrest and low seat invite lingering relaxation. The cord breathes, staying cool in summer and warm in winter. Viewed from the front, side or back, the CH25 always offers a different spectacle – never monotonous.
Gentle presence in any interior
With generous dimensions (W 71 × D 73 × H 73 cm, seat H 35 cm), it fits perfectly in a Nordic living room, by a fireplace or in a bright conservatory. The soaped oak and natural cord harmonise with wood, leather or stone. The CH25 lounge chair by Hans Wegner for Carl Hansen ages gracefully and develops a superb patina.
A living classic since 1950
Carl Hansen & Søn has produced the CH25 without interruption for over 70 years. Each piece still bears the signature of traditional Danish craftsmanship. A chair that embodies the very essence of Scandinavian design: functional beauty, honest materials and absolute durability.
