Antonio Cittero

Antonio Citerrio, nicknamed “gentleman of design” for the perfect elegance of his creations is like his elders Castiglioni graduated in architecture from the Polytechnic of Milan and his passion for design never eclipses the priority given to the space.

His international design reflects the influence of Mies Van der Rohe, Jacobsen’s globalizing design and the technical approach of Gio Ponti and Alberto Meda. In partnership with Patricia Viel since 1999, her transdisciplinary agency works with the biggest Italian and international publishers, like Cassina B & B Italia, Flexform, Flos, Maxalto …

Citterio conceives a design without frills and is freed from the dictates of fashion. His timeless furniture combines lightness, high technicality, simplicity and sophistication of details. One of his best of, a deep sofa edited by B & B Italia 2000 copies of which now equip the headquarters of Apple is named Charles in tribute to the inspiring personality of Eames.

To qualify the classicism of his design, Patricia Viel evokes a subtle recipe of correct ingredients in quantities and unexpected dosages. Among them, perfect proportions, the expressiveness of materials, the harmonious weighting of shapes in space and above all a very readable hierarchy of elements. An impeccable, timely, minimal design that is evidenced by the Flat C storage system edited by B & B Italia, wall furniture reconfigurable according to a changing and intelligent use of space.

Citterio teaches at the Academy of Architecture in Lugano and combines the distinctions: the modular sofa Sity edited by B & B Italia brought him the Compas d’Or in 1987. His many creations are exhibited at the Moma of New York and Beaubourg.
